The American Bankers Association is preparing to hawk its books, computer programs, and other training tools in the Middle East.
The trade group has unveiled a deal between its American Institute of Banking and the Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Services, which is based in Amman, Jordan, and serves bankers from 21 Arab league countries.

The academy will offer American Institute of Banking courses in bank operations, commercial lending, consumer credit, mortgage lending, customer service, and supervisory training. The ABA's materials are being translated now, and the first class is expected in early 1998.
"There are fundamental bank-ing skills that are universal and can be taught in virtually any country," said Douglas Adamson, executive director of ABA's professional development group. "ABA is looking forward to a productive partnership that will be beneficial to both organizations for years to come."
