The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has launched an experiment to gather 1997 trust data from banks over the Internet.

The agency-which does an annual survey of assets and earnings from trust activities at 4,000 banks, thrifts, and uninsured trust companies on behalf of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council-last week invited the 200 largest trust institutions to participate. Agency officials hope at least 50 will sign up for the pilot test.
