Capital Briefs: Government Selling Stock in Dime Bancorp

The government plans to sell its stake is Dime Bancorp.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. holds a warrant for 8.4 million shares of common stock in the Brooklyn-based thrift company. The agency acquired the warrant in mid-1993 as part of its bailout of Anchor Bancorp, which merged with Dime in January 1995.

A registration statement has been filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Once it becomes effective, the stock will be available for sale.
