Capital Briefs: Riley to Congress: Let Student Lending Alone

WASHINGTON - Education Secretary Richard W. Riley blasted lawmakers seeking to limit the reach of - or eliminate - the administration's efforts to lend directly to students.

"There is no better example of Congress being out of step with the American people than the current efforts in Congress to cap and even kill the new direct lending program," Mr. Riley said before the National Press Club last week.
