Card Briefs: 1st of Omaha to Offer Terminals from France

First of Omaha Merchant Processing said it would be the first merchant-acquiring bank in the United States to make the Talento terminal from the French manufacturer Dassault part of its product offering.

Talento comes in four models that are touted as being able to handle any type of transaction, from basic credit to electronic benefits transfer to electronic cash.

"Not only does Dassault's customer service and support philosophy complement First of Omaha's, but also the product capabilities further exemplify our position as a leader in payment processing," said Michael Phelan, senior vice president of business development at First National Bank of Omaha's merchant processing unit.

"Its smart card capabilities and memory expansion to 4.5 megabytes provide a solid foundation from which our merchants can build value-added applications," Mr. Phelan said.

Bill Peet, president and chief executive officer of Dassault AT in Atlanta, called the deal with First of Omaha, a leader in credit card processing for direct marketers, "a major step for Dassault in the U.S. market." He said Dassault has the fourth-largest installed POS base in the world, with 700,000 units.
