Card Briefs: Amex in Four Bank Partnerships Abroad

American Express Co. announced marketing partnerships with four financial institutions based outside the United States.

Equitable CardNetwork Inc., a subsidiary of Equitable Bank Corp. of the Phillipines, will issue Amex cards to its customers in pesos. Equitable also issues Visa, MasterCard and JCB cards.

A similar deal was struck with Millennium BIG Bank SA, which will issue Amex cards in Polish zloty. Millennium was established in October and has 57 branches in Poland.

Credit Saison of Tokyo, which has offered a standard Amex card since 1997, has launched a co-branded Amex card with Satellite Broadcasting Services. The WOWOW Saison American Express card will be issued to the broadcasting company's subscribers.

In its deal with Banco Santander Puerto Rico, the latter will issue Amex cards to small and medium-size businesses. Banco Santander also will issue standard and gold Amex credit cards to consumers.

With 76 branches, Banco Santander is the second-largest bank in Puerto Rico.
