Card Briefs: BellSouth Visa Offers Rebates on Cellular Calls

BellSouth has begun offering 2% rebates to customers who pay their cellular telephone bills with the BellSouth Visa card.

Also, the southeastern Baby Bell's cellular unit, BellSouth Mobility, has made a limited-time offer of a free Nokia 100 phone with no activation fee to holders of its cobranded credit card who qualify for the service.

BellSouth had previously been offering the 2% rebate, payable annually, only on standard phone charges, along with 1% cash back on other purchases and a 20% discount on the calling-card service.

BellSouth, which launched the Visa program last fall with Prudential Bank and Trust Co., expects the rebate program and the combining of home telephone, cellular, and cellular long-distance charges on one bill to draw new customers, said BellSouth Mobility president Odie Donald.
