Card Briefs: Diebold to Pay $20M For IBM Venture Stake

Diebold Inc. announced it will pay about $20 million for International Business Machines Corp.'s minority share in their joint venture, Interbold.

Diebold, which owns 70% of the partnership, previously announced it would buy IBM's 30%. Though IBM had exercised its option to sell July 1, it did not agree on a price until Dec. 15.

The sale is expected to close in the first quarter.

Interbold was formed in 1990 for the research, development, and deployment of automated teller machines overseas.

"Now the time is right for Diebold to have full control over its core product line and position itself as a leading player in the global marketplace," said Gregg A. Searle, chairman of Interbold's governing committee.
