Card Briefs: MAC Owner Buys ATM-Driving Business

Electronic Payment Services Inc. has bought the terminal-driving business of Transaction Network Services Inc.

The deal, which covers 3,000 dial-up automated teller machines, brings EPS' processing base to 39,500. EPS, which owns the MAC network, has long been a leading ATM processor.

"ATM terminal driving is an important core competency for us," said Richard Garman, president and chief executive officer of EPS. With most of the machines at retailing locations, the acquisition is "a good fit with our focus over the past two years."

EPS said its clients can use a point of sale advertising program that lets merchants tailor messages on terminal screens and print coupons.

Transaction Network Services, a wholesale provider of networking services, inherited the terminal driving business when it bought Suntech Processing Systems LLC last February. It bought the company for its network technologies.
