Card briefs: New York City Says ATM Crime Off 35%

NEW YORK - The City of New York, together with the NYCE regional banking network and the banks that operate in the city, announced that crimes conducted at automated teller machines have dropped 35% since the City Council passed a consumer safety law in 1992.

NYCE and its member banks reminded consumers of its three-year, $2 million advertising campaign to inform consumers about ATM safety. The campaign carries the tag line, "Make it NYCE and Safe." The campaign reminds consumers to practice safety tips like avoiding machines that are not properly lit and not going into ATM vestibules alone at night.
