GREENWICH, Conn. - NFO Research Inc., a leading provider of consumer research and the parent of Payment Systems Inc., announced an alliance to expand in Europe.

NFO signed an agreement in principle with Paris-based Ipsos, a major European marketing research firm, and L&T Participations, an Ipsos affiliate, to conduct research panels in several western European countries. NFO will have minority interests in the joint ventures with options to increase its shares to 50%.

NFO Research regularly surveys a 475,000-household data base for its 500 clients, including top consumer goods manufacturers and 22 of the 25 largest U.S. bank holding companies.
