TORONTO - Verifone Ltd., the Canadian subsidiary of the California- based transaction automation company Verifone Inc., said it has become one of the sponsoring members of Commercenet Canada.
Verifone also said it will participate in the sponsor steering committee of Commercenet Canada, an outgrowth of the U.S. Commercenet consortium that is exploring payment systems for the Internet.
Verifone Inc. is one of more than 130 members of the original Commercenet. Menlo Park, Calif.-based Commercenet also recently organized a Japanese affiliate.
Besides Verifone Ltd., Commercenet Canada has 16 members: Bank of Montreal, Canadian Electronic Commerce Committee, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Canada Post Corp., Cybermanagement Inc., Digital Media Studios, Ernst & Young, Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd., IBM Canada, Industry Canada, InContext Corp., Motivational Strategies Inc., Ontario's Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism, Smart Toronto, Tandem Computers, and WorldLinx Telecommunications Inc.
