Stephen Schapp has been named executive vice president of Visa International's emerging electronic payments group.

In the newly created post, Mr. Schapp will focus on broadening the acceptance of electronic payments and expanding the array of services that technology can facilitate.

Mr. Schapp, a 23-year Visa veteran who was most recently executive vice president of products and marketing for the European Union region in London, has also assumed temporary leadership of the chip products effort. Smart card activities, like emerging products, had been headed by Francois Dutray, who left Visa for Motorola Inc. in November. His successor has not been named.
