V-One Corp. said its SmartGate security software has been adopted as a component in SCM Microsystems Inc.'s SwapSmart smart card reader.
The combination of systems will allow organizations to conduct secure communications and transactions over the Internet using desktop and notebook computers.
SmartGate, a widely used encryption and authentication tool for client/server environments, "maximizes flexibility while minimizing implementation costs," said James Chen, president of Rockville-based V-One. "SwapSmart's extensive smart card support combined with its unique update capabilities provide an open smart card interface that is protected from obsolescence and will serve SmartGate users well."
Steve Humphreys, president of SCM Microsystems in Los Gatos, Calif., said demand for electronic commerce is growing among corporations and government agencies that need assured security of remote and mobile transactions.
