Cards Briefs: NPC Offers Printer for Gaming Industry

NPC, the merchant processing subsidiary of National City Corp., has introduced a printer for the gaming industry.

Manufactured by Verifone Inc. of Redwood City, Calif., the printer uses software called Fastmark to capture merchant numbers, date and time of sale, and depository account information. It also captures customer driver's license, account, and telephone numbers, which can be transmitted to NPC - formerly National Processing Co. - for authorization.

The information is printed on the back of the check when the authorization is received.

NPC, which specializes in large national merchants, is the No. 2 processor of card transactions for retailers - with a data base of 65 million checking accounts. It has 20 gaming merchants as clients and a target market of 800 casinos.

National Processing Co. changed its name to NPC following an initial public offering in August of 6.5 million shares.
