COLUMBIA, S.C. - Carolina First Corp. has reached an agreement to buy 12 branches of Republic National Bank. The price was not disclosed.

Four branches are in the Columbia area and eight in the southeastern part of the state.

Deposits being acquired total about $180 million, Carolina First said.

Republic National Bank is a unit of Resource Bancshares Corp., a privately held company with consolidated assets of $750 million.
