Carroll Named Chief Executive Of First Union's Georgia Bank

David M. Carroll, president of First Union National Bank of Georgia, Atlanta, has been named to the additional post of chief executive.

He succeeds Harald R. Hansen, who continues as board chairman of the First Union Corp. subsidiary. Mr. Hansen is retiring next year.

Thomas H. Pacer, an executive vice president, will succeed Mr. Carroll as head of the general banking group. Mr. Pacer had been Tampa-area president for First Union National Bank of Florida.

Mr. Carroll was named president of the Georgia bank in June 1994. As CEO he will have the additional responsibility of the finance, human resources, and portfolio management divisions.

Mr. Pacer will assume the leadership of the bank's city presidents and community reinvestment strategies.
