Cats Software Inc., Palo Alto, Calif., introduced software for the capital markets that will visually create and manage financial instruments, similar to the way architects design skyscrapers.

Using simple, reusable building blocks, the software allows users to visually create any instrument that can be logically defined and then processes the product, from risk management to accounting to regulatory reporting. Called financial computer-aided design, the system can define and model products without having to write any codes, price instruments, integrate the pricing of highly complex instruments with the remainder of the portfolio, and handle the accounting and settlement aspects.
