ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Centura Banks Inc. said it will open a full-service brokerage, Centura Securities Inc., on Wednesday.

The company named Joe Manning president of Centura Securities. He established one of the nation's first banking broker-dealer operations at Bankers Trust of South Carolina, which became NationsBank Securities Inc., a unit of Nations Bank Corp.

Centura said the securities unit will offer a range of investment services including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, annuities, and discount brokerage.

The company said it previously offered customers access to stocks and mutual funds through its Centura Financial Services unit and UVest, a Charlotte. N.C.-based brokerage firm.

Centura said that through its own brokerage it can offer asset management and an expanded line of investment options.
