ClairMail Tool Allows Banking by iPhone

ClairMail Inc. has developed a mobile banking application that can be used on Apple Inc.'s iPhone.

The Novato, Calif., banking technology vendor announced a new version of its ClairMail System software Wednesday that offers banking services through the browsers built in to many phones and also features a user interface customized for iPhones.

The software lets people check balances, transfer funds, pay bills, and find nearby automated teller machines. The company says it is the only vendor that supports all three major channels for delivering mobile banking technology: browsers, text messaging, and applications downloaded to handsets.

ClairMail cited data from Javelin Strategy and Research in Pleasanton, Calif., showing that 60% of people with advanced phones use them for banking.
