Crestar's finance chief plans to retire in May.

Patrick D. Giblin, vice chairman and chief financial officer of Crestar Financial Corp., said he plans to retire tire on May 1.

Mr. Giblin has been with Richmond, Va.-based Crestar since 1973.

He began his career as a financial executive with the Columbia Broadcasting System in New York. He joined Crestar's predecessor, United Virginia Bank, as senior VP and corporate controller in 1973.

He was named executive VP of finance in 1976 and promoted to his current position and elected to Crestar's board in

Mr. Giblin is a member of the Financial Executives Institute and the Bankers Roundtable.
