Debit cards in court.

Meridian Bancorp has found a way to stop those niggling overdue parking meters fines from piling up: Pay them with plastic.

The Berks Country (Pa.) clerk recently signed a merchant agreement with the Reading-based bank that permits parking fines, dog licences, and other country-imposed fees to be paid for with Meridian's Visa debit card.

The county decided to accept Meridian's Advantage Card to facilitate prompt and full payment of court fines and other fees. Meridian has issued debit cards to more than 200,000 customers, giving it he largest base of debit cardholders in Pennsylvania.
