Dickinson Financial to Buy Merit Bank in Kansas

Dickinson Financial in Kansas City, Mo., has agreed to buy Community Bancshares of Kansas in Overland Park.

The $2 billion-asset Dickinson, the parent of Academy Bank, said in a press release Friday that it expects to complete the purchase of Community Bancshares, which owns the $104 million-asset Merit Bank, in the first half of next year. Dickinson did not disclose the price it will pay.

Merit has three branches located in the Kansas communities of Overland Park, Olathe and Goff.

Mark Emley, Merit Bank's president and CEO, will remain at Academy Bank as a market president.
