Dimsey Quits MasterCard For MBNA

Peter S.P. Dimsey, a marketing strategist who was U.S. region president of MasterCard since 1991, has resigned to join MBNA Corp. of Newark, Del.

Effective Feb. 20, Mr. Dimsey will be senior executive vice president, responsible for strategic planning at MBNA America Bank and a subsidiary in the United Kingdom.

He will be reporting to MBNA chairman and chief executive officer Charles M. Cawley. Mr. Cawley's pioneering affinity-marketing strategy has generated a managed-loan portfolio of $19 billion, second in the bank credit card business to Citicorp's $35 billion.

Mr. Cawley, as a MasterCard board member, worked closely with Mr. Dimsey during the association's rebound in market share.

Mr. Dimsey, 57, worked for Joseph E. Seagram & Sons and General Foods, among others, before joining MasterCard in 1988.

A British native, he called MBNA's U.K. operation, which has grown to $400 million of loans since November 1993, "an exciting opportunity."

About a year ago, Mr. Dimsey's boss, MasterCard CEO Alex W. Hart, resigned to join Advanta Corp. He was succeeded by H. Eugene Lockhart.
