Discover Financial Services' person-to-person payments service, Money Messenger, is now available to cardholders.
The Riverwoods, Ill., card brand worked with PayPal Inc., the payments unit of eBay Inc., to develop the service, which allows Discover cardholders to send money to other customers and noncustomers.
The transactions appear as a purchase on the Discover cardholder's account and allow the customer to earn cash-back rewards. Recipients must have a PayPal account to access the funds.
Discover first announced it was working with PayPal on the service in October. Money Messenger, which went live on Monday, is available at Discover's customer website and on Discover's mobile applications for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry smartphones.
Visa Inc. and American Express Co. have also recently released P-to-P services that let customers send money using their cards.
