Dreyfus Corp., the New York mutual fund arm of Mellon Financial Corp., has hired Penny Hill as regional director of its Southern sales division.

Ms. Hill will head a team of external wholesalers who cover Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, and southern Virginia.
She was a vice president and Eastern divisional sales manager for Evergreen Investments, the asset management arm of Wachovia Corp.
Dreyfus, which had $190 billion of assets under management as of March 31, announced the hiring last week.
