Electronic Data Systems Corp. of Plano, Tex., has agreed to help develop and maintain an electronic accounting system for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, the government agency that handles accounting and payments for the Department of Defense.
EDS said Wednesday that it is one of several companies that will participate in the $500 million, five-year contract to provide the agency with a variety of services under a program known as DFAS Financial Integrated Systems Services III.
The other vendors are General Dynamics Corp., PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Bucher & Christian Consulting, and several small businesses.
EDS said it will handle IT support, software development, and maintenance for the government agency's financial and accounting systems.
It was involved in the first two DFIS contracts, providing support for the development of an automated funds disbursement system to pay military suppliers, and an asset management system for keeping track of military equipment.
