Equity Bancshares in Kan. hires new president

Equity Bancshares in Wichita, Kan., has hired an outsider at its president.

The $2.2 billion-asset company said in a press release last week that Wendell Bontrager had previously served a regional president for Old National Bank in Fort Wayne, Ind. Wendell will join Equity in the newly created post on Feb. 20.

Bontrager "is a great fit strategically … but is also a key fit within our company's culture and future plans," Brad Elliott, Equity's chairman and CEO, said in the release. "We're at the point in our organization that merits the addition of a strong leader to help us continue our path of organic growth."

Equity raised $35 million in capital late last year.
