NEW ENGLAND

Cambridge Bancorp of Massachusetts has hired Albert R. Rietheimer as the chief financial officer and a senior vice president of the company and its $721 million-asset Cambridge Trust Co.

Mr. Rietheimer had been the CFO and treasurer of Bancorp Rhode Island Inc. of Providence and its $1.3 billion-asset Bank Rhode Island since 1996.

Before that he had the same jobs at NFS Financial Corp., where he worked from 1980 to 1995. He began his finance career at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., a predecessor to KPMG International.


MIDWEST

First Commonwealth Financial Corp. of Indiana, Pa., has made Gerald M. Thomchick the president and chief executive officer of its $6.2 billion-asset First Commonwealth Bank.

He will remain the chief operating officer and a senior executive vice president of the parent company.

Mr. Thomchick joined the bank in 1985 as its vice president of planning. In his new jobs he succeeded Johnston Glass, who resigned last month.


First Financial Bank of Hamilton, Ohio, has hired John Marrocco and Thomas R. Saelinger as market presidents for Cincinnati and northern Kentucky, respectively.Mr. Marrocco came to the $2 billion-asset unit of First Financial Bancorp from PNC Bank of Pittsburgh. He was a vice president and a senior relationship manager for its corporate banking group in Cincinnati.

Mr. Saelinger came from Fifth Third Bank's northern Kentucky lending group, in which he was a vice president and middle-market manager.

First Financial Bancorp owns four banks and has assets of $3.9 billion.


SOUTHEAST

Carolina Bank of Greensboro, N.C., has hired W. Keith Strickland as its president for Burlington, N.C., a new market for the $325 million-asset unit of Carolina Bank Holdings Inc.

In September he will open a loan production office there; the company plans to make it a full-service branch by next August.

Mr. Strickland was a team manager for a multicounty region in North Carolina for Bank of America. In 25 years with the Bank of America Corp. unit and its predecessors he had also been its Burlington city executive and, later, an area executive.
