Shore Bancshares Inc. of Easton, Md., has hired William W. Duncan as the president and chief executive officer of its $472 million-asset Talbot Bank and a director of the company.

He succeeded W. Moorhead Vermilye, who will remain the president and CEO of Shore Bancshares.

Since 2004, Mr. Duncan had been the chairman of Mercantile Eastern Shore Bank, a $596 million-asset Chestertown unit of Baltimore's Mercantile Bankshares Corp.

Before that he had been the president and CEO of another Mercantile unit, St. Michaels Bank, for 22 years. It was merged into Mercantile Eastern Shore in 2004.

Shore Bancshares has also promoted Lloyd L. Beatty Jr. to chief operating officer.

Mr. Beatty, who has been a director of the company since 2000 and of Talbot Bank since 1992, will remain a vice president of the parent company and the manager of certain strategic initiatives, a job and title he has had since 2004.

Before that he had been the chief operating officer and a managing director of Darby Overseas Investments Ltd. of Washington.


WESTSummit State Bank of Santa Rosa, Calif., has promoted Thomas Duryea to chief credit officer and made him a senior vice president.

Mr. Duryea, who joined the $287 million-asset bank in 2001, was a vice president, a senior commercial lender, and a team leader. Earlier he had been a vice president and commercial loan underwriter in Oakland for California Bank and Trust, a San Diego unit of Salt Lake City's Zions Bancorp.


SVB Alliant, the Palo Alto, Calif., investment banking unit of SVB Financial Group, has hired Charlie Bullock as a managing director and its advisory services head for the semiconductor and related industries.

Mr. Bullock was a managing director of technology investment banking at CIBC World Markets Inc. He led the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce division's semiconductor and electronics investment banking practice.

He has 20 years of investment banking experience.


Heritage Bank of Commerce of San Jose has hired Robert Alan Johnson as a senior vice president of credit administration.

Mr. Johnson was the chief credit officer of Legacy Bank of Campbell, Calif.

Earlier in his 28 years of banking experience he had held business banking and credit management jobs at Union Bank of California, Silicon Valley Bank, Pacific Western Bank, and Bank of the West.

Heritage Bank of Commerce is a $1.1 billion-asset unit of Heritage Commerce Corp.
