NEW ENGLAND

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Springfield has hired Hugh O'Toole as a corporate vice president, a Northeast division sales manager, and a nonprofit market leader for MassMutual's retirement services division's institutional sales team.

He will report to Bill O'Grady, a senior vice president and the head of national sales and distribution for retirement services.

Mr. O'Toole was a corporate vice president at Principal Financial Group.

MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. has hired Margaret D. Tutwiler as a senior vice president and the head of global communications and public affairs.

She will start Dec. 17 and will report to John A. Thain, Merrill's chairman and chief executive.

Ms. Tutwiler will succeed Jason H. Wright, who is leaving to pursue other endeavors, the company said.

Ms. Tutwiler was the head of global communications and government relations for NYSE Euronext. Before that, she had been the U.S. Undersecretary of State for public diplomacy and public affairs from 2003 to 2004.


Morgan Stanley has hired Andy Shinn and Aaron Sack as executive directors for Morgan Stanley Private Equity.

They will both be based in New York.

Mr. Shinn has been with the Carlyle Group since 1998. He was in charge of transactions in the financial services, aerospace/defense, and consumer/retail industries in the United States and Asia.

Mr. Sack has been with Apollo Investment Management L.P. since 2005. He was in charge of making equity and debt investments in the industrial, consumer, and hospitality industries.

SOUTHEAST

Comerica Inc. of Dallas has promoted Charles H. Tashjian to retail market manager for its Florida market.

Mr. Tashjian has been with Comerica for 33 years. He was a senior vice president and a regional manager for the banking company's wealth and institutional management division in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

INTERNATIONAL

Evercore Partners Inc. has hired Anthony Fry as a senior managing director for its advisory business.

He will start on Jan. 1 and will be based in London.

Mr. Fry was the head of United Kingdom investment banking and chairman and senior advisor for the media group at Lehman Brothers Holding Inc.
