Executive Changes: Ballton To Head Charitable Unit At Union Bank Of California

Union Bank of California in Los Angeles has promoted Carl A. Ballton to president and chief operating officer of the Union Bank of California Foundation, a new post.

The foundation focuses on community economic development, affordable housing, health and human services, and education.

Mr. Ballton will be in charge of implementing the foundation's charitable contribution policies and initiatives. He will report to Robert McNeely, senior vice president for corporate community development.

Mr. Ballton was vice president and manager of the bank's Urban Enterprise Banking unit in Southern California. He joined Union Bank of California in 1979 as a credit administrator. Before that he worked at Continental Illinois National Bank of Chicago, which was bought by the former BankAmerica Corp.

Union Bank of California is mostly owned by Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi.


MIDWEST

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has promoted Mike Hoppe from operations officer to assistant vice president in charge of the Milwaukee office.Mr. Hoppe joined the Chicago Fed in 1988 as a supervisor of operations and became an account executive in the Milwaukee office in 1991. In 1995 he began manager of business development for the Peoria office and returned to Milwaukee in 1998 as an operations officer.

The Chicago Fed has also promoted Donna Dziak and Jeff Van Treese to operations officer.

Ms. Dziak will be in charge of check processing, check adjustment, and business development for the Detroit office. She joined the Chicago Fed in 1988.

Mr. Van Treese will also continue as manager of the Indianapolis office. He joined the Chicago Fed in 1989.


MIDDLE ATLANTIC

BannerDirect Inc. in New York, a direct marketing agency for financial, entertainment, and retail companies, has hired Patricia Kelly as account manager for its Northeast territory.She will report to Susan Lasley, senior vice president and director of marketing.

Ms. Kelley was a vice president of Chase Manhattan Bank's credit card services division. Earlier she was vice president and marketing director and of European American Bank. She has also had senior marketing positions at First Data Corp. and at the former Chemical Bank. She has 13 years of marketing experience.


SOUTHEAST

Comerica Bank has hired Scott Glazer as a vice president and business development officer for private banking in Boca Raton, Fla.Mr. Glazer will develop and expand the alliance that provides financial and estate planning to PaineWebber clients throughout South Florida. He will report to James D. Renger, senior vice president and trust manager.

He was a vice president and business development officer at Colonial Bank and Trust in Miami. He has 15 years of financial services experience.

Comerica Bank, a subsidiary of Comerica Corp., is based in Detroit.


Hibernia National Bank in New Orleans has promoted Steve Rapier, Anthony Frankovich, and Mary Walker from assistant vice president to vice president.Mr. Rapier manages trust real estate properties operations throughout southeast and southwest Louisiana. He joined Hibernia in 1996 and has 12 years of banking experience.

Mr. Frankovich oversees sales-related activities and treasury management products in the treasury management division. He joined Hibernia in 1997 and has 14 years of experience.

Ms. Walker prepares financial reports for management, the board of directors, and shareholders. She joined Hibernia in 1995 and has nine years of accounting experience.
