UCBH Holdings Inc. of San Francisco has reassigned Jonathan H. Downing, its chief financial officer since 1989, and hired Deloitte & Touche LP veteran Dennis Wu to succeed him as CFO.
Mr. Wu was made an executive vice president; Mr. Downing remains one. Mr. Wu was already a member of the company's board, which Mr. Downing will leave under a rule limiting it to one inside director.
Mr. Downing was named the company's director of corporate development and investor relations. His reassignment was "critical to our long-term growth … as the company continues to expand both organically and through acquisitions," president and chief executive officer Thomas S. Wu said in a press release.
Dennis Wu, who is not related to Thomas Wu, had been the national managing partner of Deloitte's Chinese services group since 2000. He had worked for Deloitte and predecessors for 37 years
UCBH owns the $6.5 billion-asset United Commercial Bank. It focuses on Chinese-American communities, as does Pacifica Bancorp Inc. of Bellevue, Wash., which UCBH is to buy under a deal announced last month.
The San Francisco company also has representative offices in Taipei and in Shenzhen, China as well as a branch in Hong Kong and two in New York (the second opened last month). It entered the New York market in 2002 by buying a Brooklyn branch and $12 million of deposits from Broadway National Bank.
Alliance Bank of Culver City, Calif., has made Dave Holmes the head of its commercial banking group and bumped him up from senior to executive vice president.Mr. Holmes, who joined Alliance seven years ago, was the regional manager of its Orange County office. He has 30 years of executive banking experience in southern California.
Alliance Bancshares California owns the $470 million-asset bank.
Calnet Business Bank of Sacramento has hired Blaine Lauhon as its chief lending officer.Mr. Lauhon was a vice president and a commercial relationship manager at Umpqua Bank of Oregon. He has 20 years of lending experience.
Calnet Business Bank has $153 million of assets.
