Financial Players Form Coalition Focused on Diversity

A group of financial industry players — including mortgage servicers and credit unions — are joining together to form a new coalition promoting workforce diversity.

Launched Friday, the Council for Inclusion in Financial Services started out by creating a diversity and inclusion self-assessment tool, as well as an online portal, to simplify the search for vendors that have been certified for taking inclusionary policies.

"There are so many initiatives to try and address what is clearly an important issue of our time, that it just makes good sense to have everyone come together and streamline our efforts," said Cheryl Travis-Johnson, the executive vice president of VRM University, an affiliate of VRM Mortgage Services that is spearheading the new effort.

"The CIFS is developing financial industry-related solutions to acknowledge and resolve an industry challenge," added Travis-Johnson, who is a founding board member of the new organization.

The council will also include an advisory board that could comprise up to 40 members, including credit union heads and past presidents of the U.S. Foreclosure Network.

Eventually the organization plans to create a portal companies could use to share sourcing queries and job postings.
