First Republic in Calif. Names Bender Chief Operating Officer

First Republic Bank in San Francisco has promoted Jason Bender to chief operating officer.

Bender replaced Mike Selfridge, who was promoted to chief banking officer of the $55 billion-asset bank on Monday. Bender was previously chief administrative officer, a role had held since January 2013.

This is First Republic's third executive announcement in the last week. On Thursday, First Republic gave a two-year contract extension to Chairman and Chief Executive James Herbert.

In his new role, Bender will oversee the operations of deposits and lending, online banking and other digital activities, strategic planning, enterprise data and secondary loan marketing. He will continue to oversee banking in the South Coast California region.

Bender, 46, joined the company in 1999 as a vice president in the finance and planning departments. Before that he worked in executive banking at Silicon Valley Bank.
