GE Finance Arm Gets Awards

General Electric Co.'s consumer finance unit said it had received awards for its credit card and student lending businesses.

The Stamford, Conn., unit, which uses the brand name GE Money, said Wednesday that it was named the Best Finance Company of 2007 by Cards International, a newsletter published by VRL Knowledge Bank Ltd. of London.

Cards International cited GE Money's ongoing growth, customer service, and product innovation.

GE Money was also nominated for the Best Cross-Border Credit Card Issuer award.

"By focusing on what our costumers need, and providing them with products and solutions that deliver value, we have been able to successfully grow our business," David R. Nissen, the president and chief executive of GE Money, said in a press release.

On Tuesday, the Financial Communications Society, a New York group of marketing and creative industry professionals, awarded GE Money its Interactive Campaign gold award for unique advertising for its student lending business.

"The GE Money Student Loan campaigns allow us to connect with our customers — when and where they are most comfortable making financial decisions related to funding college expenses," Scott Young, the head of GE Money Personal Finance, said in a press release.
