Ginnie Mae lenders securitized $35.3 billion of government-guaranteed residential mortgages in January, a 5% increase from the previous month, according to figures recently released by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
However, compared with a year earlier, Ginnie Mae issuance was down about 8%. Government National Mortgage Association securities are backed by the Federal Housing Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs and Rural Housing Service mortgages.
