Global Payments Inc. has promoted James R. Hicks to president of its Global Payments Asia Pacific Ltd. venture, where he will oversee the merchant processor's payment operations across 11 Asian countries.
A strategic joint venture between Global Payments and Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd., the business operates in Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Malaysia, the Maldives, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.
The venture provides card-acceptance products, services and support, and is the largest card-processing company in the region, Global Payments said in a press release Friday.
Hicks previously was Global Payments' top executive in Central Europe as president of its processing business in Prague. Before that he was a senior vice president at Global Payments Canada, handling marketing and development for the Atlanta company's Canadian products.
The Asia-Pacific region is a "key" market for Global Payments, Joseph C. Hyde, its president of international operations, said in the press release.
Hyde said Hicks' experience will help the company accomplish its goal of continually improving products and services provided to Global Payments' merchant customers in Asia.
