A party Google Inc. had scheduled for eBay Inc. sellers during the eBay Live convention Thursday in Boston was canceled after eBay reportedly pulled its advertising from the search engine.
Google announced plans Monday for its "celebration of user choice" on the blog for its Checkout payments tool for merchants. The tool is not allowed to be a payment option for eBay auctions.
Shortly after the announcement, eBay stopped advertising on Google's search engine, according to a report published Wednesday by International Data Group's news service. An unnamed source said that eBay's decision to pull its ads was a response to Google's plans.
On Wednesday, Google said on the Checkout blog, "After speaking with officials at eBay, we at Google agreed it was better for us not to feature this event during the eBay Live conference."
