Guardian Names Private-Equity Head

Guardian Life Insurance Co. of New York has hired David Turner to run its new private-equity investment group.

Mr. Turner had been a general partner and the chief executive and chief investment officer for WestLB Mellon Asset Management's private-equity group. Previously he was a senior portfolio manager and head of the alternative investment division for the state of Michigan's retirement systems.

Guardian, which announced the hiring Wednesday, ended 2006 with $39.5 billion of assets under management.
