Hearing Set on Small-Business Lending

The House Financial Services Committee and the Small Business Committee plan to hold a joint hearing Thursday on the condition of small-business lending and commercial real estate lending in local markets.

The hearing is rescheduled from earlier this month and is meant to look at why bank lending is down. Lawmakers have expressed frustration that banks have pulled back, but bankers have argued demand is down and is exacerbated by a decline in credit quality coupled with tighter scrutiny by bank examiners.
