Huntington Names Its West Michigan Chief

Huntington Bancshares (HBAN) has promoted longtime executive John Irwin to president of its western Michigan region.

Irwin has spent the past 11 years working in the Columbus, Ohio, company's commercial banking division in western Michigan, most recently as manager of corporate banking. He will be in charge of Huntington's commercial banking, business development, service and community relationships in the region, the $56 billion-asset company said Thursday.

Irwin will report to regional and commercial banking director Jim Dunlap, who had filled the role of western Michigan regional president since 2001. Dunlap will lead statewide operations, coordinating with Irwin in Grand Rapids and with eastern Michigan regional president Mike Fezzey in the Detroit area.

"I have every confidence in John's abilities to continue the work that Huntington is doing in West Michigan, that he has already so significantly supported," Dunlap said in a news release. "I am looking forward to having even more resources committed to Michigan that will continue to drive consistent positive outcomes across the board in the state's diverse communities."

Huntington has 67 traditional branches and 21 branches inside Meijer stores in western Michigan, a spokesman said.
