Hy-Vee Installing NCR Check Scanners

The West Des Moines, Iowa, supermarket company Hy-Vee Inc. plans to use remote check deposit scanners from NCR Corp. of Dayton, Ohio.

NCR announced Monday that Hy-Vee would use the ImageMark Commercial Passport devices in all its 224 stores to convert checks into automated clearing house transactions. Hy-Vee also will use archiving and other associated services from NCR. The vendor did not give a time line for the rollout.

Checks that do not qualify for conversion to ACH can still be processed as images using the technology, NCR said.

Hy-Vee also owns Midwest Heritage Bank.

"We wanted more control over our costs and a way to utilize our bank operations," Kevin Reeve, Hy-Vee's assistant vice president and controller, said in an NCR press release. "ACH alone will save us 4 cents on every deposited check. … We anticipate significant cost savings when the rollout is complete."
