Hypercom Hires 2 Verifone Execs

Hypercom Corp. has hired two more executives from its rival Verifone Inc.

George E. Devitt was appointed vice president of marketing for Hypercom's point of sale business in the United States and Canada, and Jorge Bobadilla was named vice president of business development and sales planning for Latin America.

Mr. Devitt was most recently vice president of marketing and business development in the Americas unit of Verifone, a Hewlett-Packard Co. subsidiary.

Mr. Bobadilla was general manager of Verifone Mexico and director of business development for Latin America, one of the few markets where Hypercom is larger than Verifone.

Mr. Bobadilla and Mr. Devitt followed ex-Verifone executives William H. Smiers and Mark McMurtrie to Hypercom. Mr. Smiers heads a software development center in Dallas, and Mr. McMurtrie is director of marketing for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Though Hypercom's revenues for the third quarter fell to $66 million, from $79 million, chief executive officer Albert Irato said he saw many positive developments, including strong revenue growth in the U.S. point of sale business.
