In Brief: 2 Evergreen Portfolio Managers Will Retire

Evergreen Investments, Wachovia Corp.'s primary investment management arm, announced Tuesday that two veteran portfolio managers are retiring and named their successors.

Maureen Cullinane, the portfolio manager for several U.S. multi- and large-cap growth funds, and J. Gary Craven, the head of the small-/mid-cap equity team, are retiring, and their successors are to take over June 30.

Aziz Hamzaogullari is to succeed Ms. Cullinane, taking over management of the Evergreen Omega, VA Omega, Large Company Growth, and Aggressive Growth portfolios. Donald Bisson is to succeed Mr. Craven and manage the Evergreen Mid Cap Growth Fund.

Mr. Hamzaogullari, who has worked five years for Evergreen, will remain a managing director and the research director for Evergreen's fundamental equity team.

Mr. Bisson, who has worked 10 years for the company, will remain a director and portfolio manager on the small-/mid-cap growth equity team and manager of small-/mid-cap growth separate accounts.

Evergreen Investments in Boston managed $257 billion of assets at March 31.
