In Brief: 2 Nebraska Mutuals Planning to Merge

LINCOLN, Neb. — The managements of Lincoln Mutual Holding Co. and WFR Mutual Insurance Holding Co. have proposed consolidating them to form Lincoln Insurance Group Inc.

Both companies are based in Lincoln. Lincoln Mutual is the parent of Lincoln Direct Life Insurance Co. WFR Mutual is the parent of Woodmen Accident and Life Co.

The companies would operate separately until January 2002, when John Haessler, WFR’s president and chief executive, would retire. Then Lincoln Mutual’s president and CEO, Tom Potter, would assume leadership of WFR, Woodmen, and Woodmen’s Assurity Life Insurance.
