Aames Financial Corp. recently adopted a stockholder rights plan to protect the company from hostile takeovers.

The company said the plan was not in response to any specific takeover effort.

Included in the poison-pill plan is a clause that allows stockholders to purchase shares of the company's preferred stock at half price.
