AMSTERDAM - ABN Amro Holding NV could transfer up to 2,000 employees to Electronic Data Systems Corp. as part of an outsourcing contract to manage the computer systems at the Dutch company's wholesale unit, a spokesman for ABN Amro said Thursday.
ABN Amro is in exclusive talks with EDS on the contract, but the deal has not yet been finalized.
The spokesman was reacting to a report Thursday in Financial Times that ABN Amro planned to cut 2,500 jobs. He confirmed that the wholesale unit, which includes corporate and investment banking, will likely have its head count further reduced by 500 through natural attrition. The unit employs around 21,000 people.
