Arch Insurance Group in New York, a division of Arch Capital Group Ltd., said Wednesday that William Palmer has been promoted to executive vice president of its central region.

In his new role, Mr. Palmer is to oversee all aspects of the Midwest operation. He will be based in Chicago and report to Ralph Jones, Arch Insurance Group's chief executive officer.
Mr. Palmer joined Arch in May 2002 as a regional vice president, umbrella and excess casualty. He had joined Travelers Insurance in 1980 as a commercial lines underwriter and then went to General Star in 1985. At General Star, he managed the excess department in both New York and Chicago.
Arch Capital Group Ltd. is a Bermuda company that sells insurance and reinsurance.
