Mr. Puschaver, whose hiring was announced Tuesday, was the director of finance and the chief accounting officer for FleetBoston Financial Corp. from 2000 through last year.

He succeeded Gary Glass, who retired in November after spending 30 years at the Atlanta bank, including 11 years as its CFO.

The Atlanta bank said Mr. Puschaver's hiring, and some other personnel moves announced Tuesday, were meant to help it strengthen its risk management and prepare for registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Two of the other moves announced Tuesday: The Atlanta bank has promoted W. Wesley McMullan to executive vice president and director of the financial management division, and it hired Praveen Jha from ABN Amro Bank to serve as senior vice president and director of member sales and trading.
